It’s the most wonderful time of the year, the time of year that makes me proud of the progress my infamous town has made. STOCKTON BEER WEEK! In its third year, this is slated to be the best beer week yet. The participation from restaurants has increased tremendously, and the days of events have as well. We originally started out with a “long weekend,” and are well over a week now. How can one choose events with a wide calendar of options? Look no further, here’s what I’m looking forward to (as well as a small promotion for a few events I’ve organized ;).)
Tioga Sequoia Pint Night @ the Abbey Trappist Pub 5pm
While this is technically the day before the start of SBW14, it’s never too early for a little pregame, no? Our friends at TS in Fresno, are bringing out some of their best beers, and releasing their new Catacomb Apricot Saison. We will also be featuring their 2013 Catacomb Blueberry Saison, as well. Don’t miss these two for a side-by-side comparison! Directions Here.
Common Cider Co Tasting at Mile Wine Company 5pm
I love love love Common Cider Company. The state seems to as well! They took both Gold and Silver in the Cider category this year at the California State Fair. Find out why at MWC starting at 5pm-11pm! Directions.
Macaronage Macarons Paired Beer Flight at The Abbey Trappist Pub 5:30
Join me for this fun event for a fun pairing of macarons, and beers. We will be featuring four beers we regularly carry, and four macarons from the local macaron company, Macaronage. We will feature mango, matchaberry, s’mores, and salted caramel. For $20, you will be amazed with the way that these two treats blend so perfectly together! Hope to see you there! This is one of the events I’ve organized, so your support would truly mean the world! Cheers! Learn more about Macaronage Macarons here.
Sunday August 24th
Beer Cocktail Competition at Valley Brewing Company 3:30pm
This looks like a fun day of beer-blended cocktails at another local watering hole here in town. They serve over 20 beers on tap, so there’s plenty of room to explore with flavors and make some interesting imbibes. Good luck to all those competing! Directions.
Monday 8/25 Firestone Walker Tap Takeover at The Abbey Trappist 5:00pm
I am VERY excited for this tap takeover, as word on the street is that they will be pouring both STICKEE MONKEE (a to-die-for barrel-aged quadruple), and Lil’Opal, a barrel-aged tart saison. You won’t want to miss those beers, amongst some classic flagships!
Tuesday 8/26 Dust Bowl Brewing’s “Stockton Session Release Party” at the Abbey Trappist 5pm
Don’t miss out on this fun Tuesday night with me bartending here at the Abbey! We will be serving up the “Stockton Session,” a hoppy session red ale that was brewed ESPECIALLY for Stockton Beer Week with the help of yours truly, K, and other participating venues here in town.
Wednesday 8/27 High Water & Magnolia Brewing Jerry Beer Collab Night at The Abbey Trappist 5pm
Join us for a dual tap takeover from local High Water brewing, and SF’s Magnolia Brewing, as they release their 2014 Workingman’s Ale to the Central Valley! Every year, the two brewmasters make a collaborative beer for “Jerry Day” in honor of the great Jerry Garcia. Join us for a night of fun with these two creative breweries!
Thursday 8/28 Sudwerk German Beer Dinner at Mile Wine Company 5pm
This looks like a really interesting paired dinner from MWC featuring this German-inspired brewery in Davis, CA. They were one of the most decorated breweries at this year’s state fair awards- find out why!
Friday 8/29 Sierra Nevada Beer Camp takes the Courtyard at University Plaza Hotel 5-8pm
This event looks like a lot of fun. It will be taking place in the courtyard of the University Plaza. $25 gets you entry, a four BBQ skewer plate paired with four Sierra Nevada beers. It also gets you get access to use the pool, and their pool tables. Sounds like a lot of fun! Directions!
Saturday 8/30 2nd Annual Beer Fest at the Abbey Trappist (11)12-4
This is going to be an amazing event at the Abbey. Last year’s was a blast, so I have nothing but high hopes for this one. This year, they are featuring thirteen breweries, many who do not distribute or sell here. Such as Bike Dog Brewing and Track 7 of Sacramento. There will be a featured food truck on premise as well. There are two ticket options for the event: *VIP for $35 it’s all you can drink, and you get in an hour earlier. $15 is the general admission ticket for 2 10oz pours, and then drink tickets are $1 each for every sample after. It should be a blast, and I hope to see you there! To purchase tickets call 209-451-1780.
Sunday 8/31- Rest!
Many locations are having additional happy hours, and kill the kegs events. This will be a great time to rest up, or try some beers you may have missed throughout the week. You can see the schedule of the events here.
